Things to do

Tide pools. White Point has some of the most varied tide pools in Southern California. Go at low tide and look for sea stars, anemones, crabs and octopuses. Look, but leave everything where you find it.

Surfing and diving. The reef breaks draw experienced surfers, and the kelp beds offshore are popular with scuba divers and free divers. The shore is rocky, so swimming isn’t recommended.

The hot springs ruins. In 1917 a Japanese American family opened a hot springs spa here, fed by sulfur springs in the rocks. The 1933 Long Beach earthquake cut off the springs, and the resort closed. Its concrete foundations and pools are still visible along the shore.

White Point Nature Preserve. Up the hill on Paseo del Mar, the preserve has easy trails through restored coastal sage scrub, views of Catalina Island, and a small nature education center.
